Durham, NH- The Brown University gymnastics team finished in third place after posting a team score of 189.675 in a tri-meet hosted at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday night at the UNH Field House. The Wildcats captured the title with a 195.475, and Yale followed in second place with a 190.275.
Sophomore Michelle Shnayder was Brown's top finisher on the vault with a 9.725, followed by Emily Lutfey's 9.600 for ninth place. Freshmen Allison Rubenstein (9.475) and Danielle Hoffman (9.400) were next with 10th and 13th place finishes, respectively, while Becca Freedman (9.2) and Katie Goddard (8.075) rounded out the Bears lineup.
On the bars, Julia Meyer led Brown with a fifth place score of 9.725 and was followed by a 10th place finish by Lilly Siems (9.625) and a 12th place mark by Shnayder (9.575). Brown's Nicole Abdo (8.775), Emily Lutfey (8.7) and Kasey Haas (8.425) were next earning 16th through 18th place finishes.
Shnayder led the Bears on the balance beam with an eighth place score of 9.550, and Abdo and Lutfey tied for 11th with a 9.500. Rubenstein earned 13th with a 9.475 and Meyer finished in 15th with a 9.350 and rounding out the lineup for Brown was Danielle Hoffman with an 8.950.
On the floor, Shnayder had a stellar performance earning third place with a 9.825, followed by a 9.725 by Abdo (8th) and a 9.675 by Hoffman (9th). Next for the Bears was Goddard's 9.650 for 10th, Rubenstein's 9.6250 for 12th, and Lutfey's 9.550 for 13th.
Shnayder finished second in the all-around competition with a combined score of 38.675, followed by a fifth place all-around score of 37.350 by Lutfey. In the first AA competition of her collegiate career, Shnayder hit all four events, earning our top score on three of the four events – vault, beam and floor. Her outstanding performances helped the Bears earn a season high team total. She had personal bests/career highs on vault, bars, floor and the all-around.
