Providence, RI- Brown University gymnasts Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA) and Michelle Shnayder (Lincolnshire, IL) received ECAC honors after stellar meets for the Bears this past week. Lutfey was named the Gymnast of the Week, while Shnayder earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Lutfey had two solid meets for the Bears, earning a career-high 38.925, followed by a 38.7 in the all-around competition. Now ranked as the top all-around competitor in the ECAC, Lutfey also earned a career-high on the floor with a 9.825. She hit all four events in both meets, leading the Bears to a school record on beam and on bars at the meet on March 7, then again breaking the school record on bars at the meet on March 12. She also led the Bears to the highest team total (193.675) since 2003.
Shnayder has been solid for the Bears all season long, and recently earned a personal best on beam this week with a 9.750. Her career-high helped the Bears to break the school record on this event with a 48.800.
The Bears will host its final home meet of the 2011 season, the ECAC Championship, on Saturday, March 19 at 12:00 p.m.
