Providence, RI- Sophomore Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA) and freshman Michelle Shnayder (Lincolnshire, IL) both had outstanding performance for the Brown gymnastics team last weekend to earn ECAC gymnastics honors. Lutfey was named the ECAC Gymnast of the Week, while Shnayder received Rookie of the Week honors.
Lutfey had the best meet of her career at the University of New Hampshire Invitational last weekend. Competing against the Wildcats, Michigan State and Alaska, Lutfey stayed calm and confident throughout the competition, leading her team to its highest team total (191.500) in seven seasons. She also led the Bears to a new school records on vault (9.75) as well as bars (9.75). She earned Brown's highest score on vault, bars and floor (9.775), and the second highest score on beam (9.500).
Shnayder had the best meet of her season, earning personal bests on vault and floor, by over two-tenths each, and tied her personal best on beam. Her vault score (9.675) was essential in breaking the school record for the vault team. In addition, she helped the Bears to a season-high, and the best score since 2004.
