Piscataway, NJ- The Brown University gymnastics team earned a score of 184.725 to earn fourth in a quad meet hosted at Rutgers this afternoon. Rutgers secured the top spot with a combined 192.050, followed by North Carolina (190.975) and Penn (188.750).
The Bears tallied a 46.200 on the vault as Emily Lutfey earned Brown's best score with a 9.550 for sixth place. Carli Wiesenfeld followed with a 9.250 for 16th and freshman Michelle Shnayder earned a 9.225 for 17th. Rounding out the lineup was Rebecca Freedman (9.150), Chelsey Binkley (9.025) and Katie Goddard (8.875).
Lutfey earned the top spot again for Bruno on the bars earning sixth place again with a 9.525. Binkley posted a 9.400 while Lauren Hall finished with a 9.350. The Bears also had solid performances from Wiesenfeld (9.275), Julia Meyer (9.100) and Kasey Haas (9.050). The squad combined for a total of 46.650 on the bars.
Meyer finished with Brown's highest beam score with a 9.650 for fourth place, with Lutfey following behind with a 9.300 for 17th. Wiesenfeld earned a 9.000, as Brown's Shnayder (8.900), Freedman (8.650) and Victoria Zanelli (8.600) rounded out the scoring to combine for a 45.500.
On the floor, Lutfey's routine earned a 9.700 for sixth place, and Shnayder (9.425) finished 16th and Haas was right behind with a 9.325 for 18th. Wiesenfeld posted a score of 9.125 as Nicole Abdo (8.8) and Lauren Hall (8.400) followed behind. The Bears totaled a 46.375.
Lutfey and Wiesenfeld competed all-around today, as Lutfey finished in fourth place with a total score of 38.075. Wiesenfeld's 36.650 placed ninth.
The Bears will remain on the road next weekend and will head west to challenge Arizona State at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 28.
