Philadelphia, PA- The Brown University gymnastics team combined for a score of 189.100 to finish in seventh place at the ECAC Championship on Saturday afternoon at Temple's McGonigal Hall. The Bears had some huge performances on the vault, earning a 48.225 to set a new record at Brown. The previous record, a 48.025 was set in 2003.
Seniors Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt and Helen Segal were also named ECAC Scholar Athletes of the Year. Kirkham-Lewitt and Segal, along with teammates Katie Goddard, Chelsey Binkley, Julia Meyer, Lily Siems, Victoria Zanelli and Kasey Haas were also recognized on the ECAC All-Academic Team, which is awarded to individuals with a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher.
Leading the Bears on the vault was Binkley with a 9.750 for 11th place and Lutfey followed behind with a 12th place score of 9.725. Also adding to Brown's record setting vault score was Goddard with a 9.65, Carli Wiesenfeld with a 9.600, freshman Nicole Abdo with a 9.5 and Lauren Hall with a 9.125.
The Bears tallied a 46.325 on the bars this afternoon, and were led by Meyer's 9.475. Kirkham-Lewitt recorded a 9.3 and following behind was Lutfey (9.275), Hall (9.150) and Wiesenfeld with a 9.125.
Lutfey registered Brown's highest score on the balance beam, earning a 9.6 for 10th place. Kirkham-Lewitt earned a 9.55 for 14th place and Zanelli posted a 9.250. Abdo finished with a 9.175 and Wiesenfeld earned a 9.1 to tally a combined score of 46.675.
Rookie Emily Lutfey had a great day for Bruno at the ECAC Championship, earning fifth place in the all-around competition with a total score of 38.275. Also competing was Wiesenfeld, who posted a 37.300 and Abdo earned a 37.150.
