Gymnastics Ranked No. 15 in NACGC/W Academic Standings
Providence, RI- After a successful season in the gym, the 2010 Brown University gymnastics team has been rewarded for their hard work in the classroom as well. On Tuesday, the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) announced the 2010 Academic Team Rankings, placing Brown as the No. 15 team in the nation. The Bears accumulated a 3.4392 grade point average (GPA) while seven team members earned individual honors as well.

Gymnastics Announces 2010 Team Awards
Providence, RI- The Brown University gymnastics team held their annual season-ending banquet where seven individuals were recognized and honored with various team awards. Also, both Chelsey Binkley ’11 and Vicki Zanelli ’11 were named captains for the Bears next season. Both have earned USAG All-American status, as Binkley was awarded the honor on floor as a freshman and vault this season, and Zanelli earned All-American status on the beam at the 2009 Nationals.

Chelsey Binkley Earns USAG All-American Honors
Denton, Texas- Junior Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) earned USAG All-American honors on the vault after solid performance at the USAG Championship at Kitty Magee Arena on the campus of Texas Woman’s University yesterday evening. Binkley was one of three Brown gymnasts competing at the Nationals this weekend, as she was selected to compete all-around.

Winter Academic All-Ivy Announced
Providence, RI- The Ivy League released its winter list of Academic All-Ivy honorees, with ten Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five males and five females were starters or key reserves on their respective varsity teams and carry a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

Providence, RI- Brown junior Chelsea Binkley (Marietta, GA) and freshman Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA) received ECAC honors after solid performances at the ECAC Championship hosted at Temple on March 27.

Three Brown Gymnasts Qualify for USAG National Championship
Providence, R.I.- Three Brown University gymnasts qualified for the USAG National Championship hosted at Texas Women’s University held April 15-17 at Kitty Magee Arena. Freshman Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA) and junior Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) qualified in the all-around, while freshman Julia Meyer (Granite City, IL) qualified on beam and will also serve as a first alternate on bars.

Brown Gymnastics Sets Brown Record on Vault During ECAC Championship
Philadelphia, PA- The Brown University gymnastics team combined for a score of 189.100 to finish in seventh place at the ECAC Championship on Saturday afternoon at Temple’s McGonigal Hall. The Bears had some huge performances on the vault, earning a 48.225 to set a new record at Brown. The previous record, a 48.025 was set in 2003.

Emily Lutfey Named ECAC Rookie of the Week
Providence, RI- Brown University gymnast Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA) has recently been named the ECAC Rookie of the Week after a tense tri-meet with Towson and Southern Connecticut. Her outstanding efforts also helped lead Brown to a season-high team total of 189.825.

Bears Earn Third With Season-High Score at Towson
Towson, MD- The Brown University gymnastics squad combined for a season-high 189.825 to earn third place in a tri-meet against Towson and Southern Connecticut. Towson finished in first place with a 193.100, followed by Southern Connecticut (191.000) and Brown.

Brown’s Vicki Zanelli and Carli Wiesenfeld Honored by ECAC
Providence, RI- Brown’s Vicki Zanelli and Carli Wiesenfeld received ECAC Gymnastics honors after stellar performances at the Ivy Classic last weekend. Zanelli received “Specialist of the Week” honors while Wiesenfeld earned the “Coach’s Choice” award.

Providence, RI- After earning second place at the Ivy Classic on Sunday with a season-high score of 189.675, the Brown University gymnastics team had three individuals earn First Team All-Ivy Classic honors, while three earned Second Team All-Ivy Classic accolades.

Brown University Gymnastics Earns Second at Ivy Classic
Providence, RI- For the second consecutive year, the Brown University gymnastics team earned second place at the Ivy Classic. Hosted at Brown's Pizzitola Sports Center, Cornell University earned first place with a score of 192.550, and was followed by Brown (189.675), University of Pennsylvania (189.550) and Yale (187.500). Brown’s Victoria Zanelli was the only Bear to earn a title this afternoon, as she posted a personal record of a 9.775 on the beam. Carli Wiesenfeld did an outstanding job for the Bears today setting personal records on almost every event. Her stellar performances earned her a silver medal in the all-around with a 38.225.

Providence – Brown Gymnastics is hosting the 2010 Ivy Classic on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1:00 p.m. and tickets are NOW on sale! Penn, Cornell and Yale will join the Bears at the Pizzitola Sports Center and will compete for the Ivy Classic Championship.

Providence, RI- Brown University freshmen Emily Lutfey and Julia Meyer earned ECAC honors after stellar performances at the University of Alaska Anchorage over the weekend. Lutfey received Rookie of the Week honors, while Meyer was named the ECAC Specialist of the Week.

Anchorage, AK- The Brown University gymnastics team did a great job during its final meet at Alaska Anchorage this afternoon at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex. The Seawolves edged the Bears 189.525 – 189.325, but highlighting the meet was freshman Emily Lutfey winning the all-around competition with a 38.400.

Alaska Anchorage Defeats Brown 188.250-184.875
Anchorage, AK- Freshman Julia Meyer led the Brown University gymnastics team with first place finishes on the bars and beam, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Alaska Anchorage at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex on Friday night. The Bears combined for a 184.875 while the Seawolves tallied a 188.250.

Bears Earn Second Place With Season High 188.550; Katie Goddard Takes First on Floor
Providence, RI- The Brown University gymnastics team earned second place with a season-high score of 188.550 in a quad-meet this evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Bridgeport edged the Bears with a total of 190.225, as the Bears followed in second, followed by the University of Pennsylvania with a 183.975 and the URI Club team earned a 168.650. This is the fifth consecutive week that the Bears have improved on its total, and the Bears also earned a season-high score on the vault this afternoon as well.

Durham, NH- The Brown University gymnastics team fell 194.975-188.300 to the University of New Hampshire on Friday evening in Durham. Freshman Emily Lutfey had a solid day for the Bears, earning second place in the all-around competition.

A Tutor, a Teacher, a Leader
Brown gymnast Katie Goddard ’12 is a natural teacher. When she was in high school in Kings Park, N.Y., one of her neighbors asked if she would help their sixth-grade son with his math homework. Before she knew it, she was tutoring nine middle school students on a weekly basis.

Brown Gymnastics Defeats Rhode Island College; Falls to Bridgeport
Providence, RI- The Brown University gymnastics team earned second place in a tri-meet against the University of Bridgeport and Rhode Island College this afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The 2009 USA Gymnastics Team Champions, Bridgeport, earned first place with a score of 191.050, as the Bears followed closely behind with a season-high score of 187.275 for second. Rhode Island College earned third place with a 169.700. Brown junior Chelsey Binkley brought home the floor exercise title for the Bears today with a personal record of a 9.825.

Providence, RI- The Brown University gymnastic team’s meet against Southern Connecticut, New Hampshire and MIT Club Team has been featured on the Gymnastike website. Gymnastics Defeats SCSU and MIT Club in First Home Meet of 2010 Season
Providence, RI- The Brown University gymnastics defeated both Southern Connecticut and MIT’s Club gymnastics team, but fell to the University of New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Wildcats tallied a 193.850 for first place, while Brown recorded a 186.400, the highest team total of any Ivy League team this weekend, as SCSU (184.925) and MIT (153.700) followed behind.

Brown Gymnastics Defeats Springfield in 2010 Season Opener
New Haven, CT- The Brown University gymnastics team opened up the 2010 season with a tri-meet at Southern Connecticut Stat University this afternoon. Host SCSU won the meet with a combined score of 182.900, as the Bears fell short with a 182.825 to place second. Springfield finished in third overall with a 181.150.

Gymnastics Team Honored as Scholastic All-Americans by NACGC/W
The Brown University gymnastics team was recently honored by the National Association for Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics (NACGC/W) for its exemplary year of academic performance. The team combined for a 3.451 grade point average, which ranks 10th overall in the nation. Nine individuals on the Brown squad were also recognized on the Scholastic All-American team for their outstanding performance in the classroom.
