Seven members of Brown's fencing team were named to the All-Northeast Fencing Conference team on Friday. Although the Bears had their final NFC bouts on Jan. 27, the conference's final competition was held on Feb. 10. The women's team already knew it had locked up a conference championship with an 11-0 record, but the men eventually finished in third place at 7-2.
The women had three members make the First Team and one make the Second Team, representing all three weapons. Freshman Randy Alevi (Old Westbury, NY), who led the Bears with a 29-3 record in the NFC, earned First Team honors in the sabre. In the epee, both junior tri-captain Christine Livoti (Garden City, NY) and sophomore Christina Salvatore (Chevy Chase, MD) earned First Team honors, as they posted 26-4 and 24-6 records, respectively. Freshman Kirsten Lynch (Maplewood, NJ) earned Second Team honors in the foil, going 23-4.
The men had three All-NFC members. Senior tri-captain Dan Mahoney (Haydenville, MA), who went 19-5, and junior Samuel Levine (Santa Monica, CA), who went 19-8, made First and Second Team, respectively, in the sabre. The final men's honoree was sophomore David Berliner (Los Angeles, CA), whose record in the epee was 17-9.
This weekend, the Bears will be in Cambridge, MA, for the second half of the Ivy League Championship.
