Schneider In Tenth Place After First Day Of Competition At Nationals

Waltham, MA - Brown sophomore Ruth Schneider (Rochester, NY) is currrently in tenth place after the first day of competition at the 2004 NCAA Fencing Championship hosted by Brandeis University.
Schneider, who earned All-American status last year as a freshman, went 9-4 on the day in women's epee action. The final rounds of competition will be held on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m. , followed by the Semifinals and Gold Medal Bouts. Scheider placed 12th overall at last year's Championship.
Brown's other NCAA qualifier, freshman Jeremy Zeitlin (Piedmont, CA), will begin competition on Saturday, competing in men's foil.
Scheider secured a spot in the NCAA Championship with her sixth place finish at Regionals on March 7. Zeitlin earned a qualifying bid with a 13th place finish.
Brown is currently second among New England schools with nine points. Defending champion Notre Dame, which has 11 fencers competing, leads the overall competition with 63 points.
