State College, PA - Competition at the NCAA National Championships at Penn State wrapped up over the weekend, with two Bears placing in the top-25 nationally. Junior Adam Pantel (Mendham, N.J.) led the way for Brown, winning 12 bouts to take eleventh place in the foil, while sophomore Jonathan Yu (Birmingham, AL) captured four matches to place 23rd in the same event.
Pantel wraps up an impressive season in which he was named the Northeast Fencing Conference's Fencer of the Year, and also voted to the First Team All-Ivy. As a result of his top-12 finish, he was also named an Honorable Mention All-American. With another season remaining, he should be primed to break into the top-10 in the country in 2009-2010. Yu also enjoyed a solid year, as he was a First Team All-NFC pick, and placed sixth at the NCAA Regionals. Despite having only two athletes competing, Brown earned a respectable 20th-place finish overall.
