Brown Fencers Win Three Matches at Brandeis Invitational

WALTHAM, MA - The Brown men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Brandeis Invitational on Sunday with the men posting a 2-3 record and the women turning in a 1-4 mark.

In men's action, Brown defeated North Carolina 14-3 and Yeshiva 21-6. The Bears also suffered losses to Penn State 23-4, NYU 19-8, and Penn 20-7.

On the women's side, Brown defeated North Carolina 16-11 and fell to Penn State 22-5, Cornell 16-11, NYU 18-9 and Penn 22-5.

Leading the way for the Bears was junior All-American Paul Friedman (San Marino, CA) who compiled a 12-3 record in men's saber action. The men's epee squad was led by seniors Jon Feldon (Newton, MA) and Mark Dembitz (Mies, Switzerland) who went 9-6 and 8-7 respectively. Senior Sharon Sonenblum (Monroe Township, NJ) also posted an 8-7 mark in women's saber.

Both the men's and women's teams will return to action on Saturday, February 9 at the Yale Invitational.
