Taylor Places 19th at NCAA Championships

Cambridge, MA. – Brown freshman Caitlin Taylor (Elk Grove, CA) finished competition in the women's saber at the NCAA Championships, hosted by Harvard University, on Friday.  Taylor finished with a 7-16 mark, which was good for 19th place out of 24 fencers.   As a team, Brown stands in 18th place out of 20.

Taylor earned four wins against Ivy League fencers.  She defeated Elena Helgiu of Harvard, 5-3, Danielle Kamis of Penn, 5-3, Jackie Johnson of Columbia, 5-4, and Beverly Yang of Cornell, 5-1.

Host Harvard’s Caroline Vloka won the saber championship after defeating Rebecca Ward of Duke.  St. John’s leads the team standings with 92 victories. Notre Dame is close behind at 91, with Penn State in third at 90. The men begin competition on Saturday, with Brown senior Adam Pantel (Mendham, NJ) competing in the foil.
