Brown’s Weller Competes in Day One of 2011 NCAA Fencing Championships
Columbus, Ohio – The Brown fencing team which sent more student-athletes to the NCAA Championship this year than it ever has in program history, had Teddy Weller compete today in the first day of the championship and Brown currently stands in a tie for 22nd overall.
Weller picked up three team points for the Bears in his bouts this afternoon. Weller competes in the men's saber weapon. The sophomore finished 21st in the country in the event.
Brown will have four women compete over the next three days. Kathryn Hawrot and Avery Nackman in the foil, Cory Abbe in the epee and Caitlin Taylor in the saber will have have bouts in the 2011 finals.
Rounds five through seven of men's competition at Ohio State continue Friday at 9:30 a.m. inside French Field House, followed by semifinal and championship bouts for each category. Championship bouts are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in St. John Arena. Women's competition begins Saturday at 10 a.m. Women's championship bouts take place Sunday at 2 p.m. inside St. John Arena.
