Brown Competes at Brandeis Invitational
Waltham, Mass. – The Brown fencing team continued its 2010-11 season at the Brandeis Invitational this past weekend. The men's team was especially exceptional as the squad went 4-1 in competition against MIT, Haverford, Brandeis, Boston College and St. John's.
The Bear men pick up wins in their first four matchups before falling to St. John's. Peter Tyson was the team's standout with the saber with an 11-4 record. In the foil, Scott Phillips boasted a mark of 10-3.
The women were narrowly edged by MIT, Brandeis and Boston College, as each defeat came by a score of 12-16. Kathryn Hawrot and Cory Abbe were outstanding as each picked up 13 points. Howrot went 13-2 in the foil while Abby finished 13-1 with the epee.
The Bears will now break for exams and the holiday season before resuming the 2010-11 season after the New Year. Brown will start winter training on January 16 before officially opening 2011 when they host the second round of the NFC's on January 22.
