Women's Fencing Finishes 4-0 at Brandeis/MIT Invitational; Men Finish 2-2
Providence, R.I. – The women’s fencing squad finished with a perfect 4-0 mark at the Brandeis/MIT Invitational on Saturday. Freshman foilist Avery Nackman (Cross River, NY) led the women with an 11-1 finish. The men finished 2-2 on the day with freshman Teddy Weller (Princeton, NJ) earning an 11-1 mark in the saber event to lead the Bears.
The women defeated Haverford, 19-8, Hunter, 21-6, NYU, 16-11, and Air Force, 17-10. In the foil event, the women had successful performances by sophomores Vivian Truong (Brooklyn, NY) and Yukiko Kunitomo (Wellesley, MA), who finished 8-4 and 9-3, respectively.
In the epee, senior Robyn Thvedt (Tuscon, AZ) led the team with a 9-2 finish and senior Bridget Smith (North Haven, CT) contributed an 8-2 mark. In the saber, freshman Caitlin Taylor (Elk Grove, CA) finished 11-1 and senior Randy Alevi (Old Westbury, NY) finished 8-2.
The men defeated Haverford, 15-12, and Hunter, 21-6. They dropped close matches to NYU, 14-13 and Air Force, 11-16. In the foil, senior Adam Pantel (Mendham, NJ) earned a perfect 6-0 mark. Junior Scott Phillips (Great Neck, NY) helped the Bears with an 8-3 finish. In the men’s saber, sophomore Peter Tyson (Stony Brook, NY) finished 8-4.
The Bears will be
back in action on February 21, at their first Ivy Competition at
Cornell.
