Storrs, CT - It was a tough day for the equestrian team, as the Bears finished third with 29 points, while UConn turned in 49 points for a first place finish. With the 20 point victory the Huskies took the lead in the region from the Bears, which now stands at UConn 110 and Brown 103.
The day opened up with the flat competition where junior Marissa Geoffroy turned in the Bears top finish in the open portion, pinning in first, while senior captain Alexis Gilbard turned in a third place finish. Point rider Jamie Peddy and Whitney Keefe each finished fifth in their respective classes and Jess Mendelson placed sixth. In intermediate flat both point rider Rachel Roemer and Ariana Arcenas rode their way to second place. In a competitive novice division the Bears had their work cut out for them, as there were ten riders in each class making it harder for the Brown riders to pin. The Bears did not falter having five riders pin including a first place finish by Courtney Pope. Point rider Kim Michenberg placed second for five points, while Katie Goetz finished in fourth. Rounding out the top finishers for Brown was Mallory Kass who placed fifth and Emma Clippinger who came in sixth.
Moving into the next event UConn was leading with 28 points, Roger Williams was in second with 17, and Brown was on their heels with 16 points. In walk trot canter point rider Jenny John, Rosie Bogan and Hayley Goldback all finished in sixth. In walk trot Lucia Corso pinned second while point rider Sarah Morris finished in third.
In open fences Peddy finished in first while point rider Whitney Keefe pinned second, Gilbard rounded out the Bears top finishers, coming in second place. In intermediate fences, Roemer placed second with a nice ride while Arcenas finished up in fourth place. Dana Liljegren led the Bears in novice fences finishing first, while Kass come in third.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, November 12, when they will travel to Weslayan.
