Equestrian Gets First Place Finish at Teikyo Post

Waterbury, CT - The equestrian team finished this afternoon's show with a first place finish edging out UConn 41-36, building a 13 point lead in the region. Brown won seven points in each of the last three divisions while UConn, Roger Williams and Johnson and Wales did not have a rider get a seven point gain in any of the divisions.

The day started out with open fences, where Marissa Geoffroy placed first in her first open show, having pointed up in the URI show two weeks ago. Also getting a first place pin was Whitney Keefe, while Alexis Gilbard ended up in fifth place. In intermediate fences, point rider Jade Palomino turned in a third place finish. In novice fences point rider Courtney Pope finished with a first place finish while Kim Mickenberg had a third place finish. Rounding out the top finishers for Brown was Mallory Kass and Katie Goetz who finished fifth and sixth in their rounds.

Moving to open flat, point rider Jamie Peddy earned seven points for Brown as she came in first, while Whitney Keefe finished up in second qualifying Keefe for the reserve high point ride off. Gilbard finished the event with a fifth place finish. In intermediate flat point rider Jade Palomino pinned in fifth, putting the current score at UConn 22, Brown and Johnson and Wales at 20. In novice flat point rider Kim Mickenberg came in an important first place while Pope finished in second. Mickenberg's first place finish put Brown and UConn in a two tie for first place each posting 27 points, while Johnson and Wales was not to far behind with 25 points.

With a first place finish by Emily Cole, Brown pulled ahead of UConn with a score of 34-31. Anna Mori who also finished in first place pointed up to novice, while Irmak Tasindi came in fifth. Point rider Kelly Qu's first place finish gave the Bears the show blocking the other schools from earning important first and second finishes.

The Bears will travel to Storrs, CT to take part in the UConn show on Saturday, October 22.
