Brown Takes First Place Again at Windcrest, Extends Region Lead
Oct. 1, 2007
Warren, RI - For the second week in a row, the Brown equestrian team finished in first place, this time taking victory at Windswept Farm, its home barn. The Bears co-hosted the show with Roger Williams, which finished second with 34 points to Bruno's 38. With the win giving them a season total of 80 points, the Bears increased their points lead from just three points to 20. Roger Williams is now in second place at 60 points, with Rhode Island and Connecticut just behind at 59.
Sophomore Emma Bogdonoff (New London, CT) won a ride-off for high point rider against two Intermediate riders, which she qualified for with a first-place ribbon in Novice Flat and a third-place in Novice Fences. The Bears now hold a 19-point lead over Connecticut in Region 1.
Sunday's show opened with the flat events. Freshman Brianne Goutal (New York, NY), in her first show as Brown's Open point rider, got things started with a third-place ribbon in Open Flat, which sophomore Elizabeth Giliberti (Washington, DC) matched in Intermediate. Bogdonoff followed with her blue ribbon to bring the Bears within two points of Johnson & Wales.
In Walk Trot Canter, senior Kristen Beck (Basking Ridge, NJ) earned a sixth-place ribbon, which proved to be Brown's drop. A pair of blue ribbons followed from senior Stephanie Carmack (Pawcatuck, CT) and Goutal in Walk Trot and Open Fences, respectively. Giliberti and Bogdonoff then finished off the win with a second and a third in their respective Fences divisions.
Senior co-captain Whitney Keefe (Wellesley, MA) rode well, taking second-place ribbons in both Open events. Freshman Allegra Aron (Burlingame, CA) was impressive in her collegiate debut, winning her class of Intermediate Flat and pinning fourth in Open Fences. Irmak Tasindi (Istanbul, Turkey) won her class of Novice Fences, while junior co-captain Hayley Goldbach (Belmont, MA) and sophomore Tanya Lee (Johannesburg, South Africa) took second in their respective Novice Flat classes.
Five Brown riders also qualified for Regionals, reaching the 35-point mark in just their second show: Giliberti in Intermediate Flat and Fences, senior Amy Cameron (Andover, MA) in Novice Flat, senior Kelly Qu (Irvine, CA) and junior Leona Rosenblum (New York, NY) in Walk Trot Canter, and Carmack in Walk Trot. Walk Trot Canter riders Beck, Qu, and Rosenblum also all pointed up to Novice.
