Bears Edge Out Roger Williams 34-27

The Brown equestrian team competed in their last show at Connecticut College on Saturday, March 27. The Bears edged out Roger Williams 34-27 on the day.

In open fences, junior captain Leila Ledsinger had a beautiful round, earning a first place finish. Point rider sophomore Jamie Peddy finished second, senior Cindy Wilner was pinned third, senior captain Jess Kingsboro had a sixth place finish along with senior Jackie Bialo.

In the intermediate fences, point rider Gillian Heinecke finished third with freshman Jess Mendelson earning second place honors.

In novice fences, senior Jen Baines finished sixth in her first jumping competition. Freshman Grace Peloquin led the team with a first place finish. Sophomore Ariana Arcenas and sophomore Mallory Kass finished second along with senior Bridget Barbera who qualified for regionals. Junior Heidi Abrecht finished fourth and point rider, sophomore Rachel Roemer was second in her class.

After jumping, Brown had reduced Roger William's lead to 11 points, headed into their stronger area, the flat.

On the open flat, sophomore point rider Jamie Peddy was one point ahead of Connecticut College Vanessa Stevenson. However, Stevenson was pinned first with Peddy finishing sixth. Senior captain Jess Kingsborough won first place and senior Jackie Bialo qualified for regionals with her finish on the flat.

On the intermediate flat, freshman Jess Mendelson finished third and point rider Gillian Heinecke finished first.

On the novice flat, sophomore Ariana Arcenas and sophomore Mallory Kass each finished third and teammates junior Heidi Abrecht and senior Jen Bain each had first place finishes to lead the Bears. Sophomore point rider Rachel Roemer had a very nice ride, but placed sixth in the competion.

In walk trot canter, point rider junior Galyn Burke won a second place finish. Freshman Dana Lundgren ended up with a fifth place finish and sophomore Anna Mori finished first.

In walk trot, junior Gabi Gargano was the only walk trot rider. She brought in a first place ribbon giving the Bears a final of 34 points to Roger Williams 27 points.
