SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Junior Anna Seto and sophomore Yinan Liu both qualified for the IHSA National Championships to lead Brown University equestrian at the 2017 IHSA Zone 1 Finals at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon.
Seto (Barrington, R.I.) won her class in novice fences while Liu (Shanghai, China) placed second in her class in walk-trot as both riders will now compete at the IHSA National Championships from May 4-7 in Lexington, Ky., at The Kentucky Horse Park.
Junior Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) came in seventh in intermediate fences, senior captain Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.) finished 10th in open flat, and senior Roshan Moazed (Brooklune, Mass.) placed 10th in walk-trot-canter.
Seto and Liu become Brown's first IHSA National qualifiers since Baughen competed at nationals in 2014.
Each rider finished in the top two of her class at regionals to advance to zones. The top two riders in each class at zones then advance to nationals. To qualify for regionals, riders needed to total enough points to "point out" of their respective divisions during the regular season.
In its final team competition of 2016-17, Brown will compete at the Ivy Show at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., on Sunday, Apr. 23.
