TIVERTON, R.I. – Brown University equestrian advanced five riders to the Zone 1 Finals as part of its performance at the 2017 IHSA Zone 1 Region 1 Regionals on Sunday at New Claddagh Farm in its first show of the postseason.
Senior captain Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.), senior Roshan Moazed (Brookline, Mass.), juniors Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) and Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.), and sophomore Yinan Liu (Shanghai, China) all posted first or second-place finishes in their respective classes and divisions to punch their tickets to zones.
The Zone 1 Finals will take place on Saturday, Apr. 8 at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. The top two riders in each class at zones will move onto the IHSA National Championships from May 4-7 in Lexington, Ky.
Baughen placed second in her class in open flat and notched a third-place finish in open fences while Fries came in second in her class in intermediate fences, and Seto placed first in novice fences.
In walk-trot-canter, Moazed led the way for the Bears with a second-place finish while sophomore Wallace Douglas (Ipswich, Mass.) and junior Elizabeth Rao (Andover, Mass.) placed fourth and sixth respectively.
In walk-trot, Liu paced Brown with a second-place showing, and junior Genoveva Eguiguren (Quito, Ecuador) notched a fourth-place finish.
After the Zone 1 Finals on Apr. 8, Brown will also compete at the Ivy Show on Sunday, Apr. 23 at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
