Fries Takes High Point Rider, Equestrian Comes in Sixth at RIC/UMD Show

TIVERTON, R.I. – Sophomore Annaliese Fries earned high point rider with a pair of first-place finishes as Brown University equestrian finished in sixth place out of 11 schools with 23 points at the Rhode Island College/UMass Dartmouth Show on Saturday at Claddagh Farm.

In a low-scoring show where seven of the 11 schools scored in the 20s, Brown maintained its position at second place in the IHSA Zone 1 Region 1 standings with an even 200 points on the year through six shows.

Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) garnered a pair of blue ribbons on the day, placing first in her classes in intermediate flat and intermediate fences. Three other Bears took home blue ribbons as senior captain Elena Buchsbaum (Madison, N.J.) finished first in intermediate flat, senior Noel Park (Baton Rouge, La.) came in first in walk-trot-canter, and sophomore Genoveva Eguiguren (Quito Ecuador) placed first in her class in walk-trot.

In open fences, senior Tess Carter (Tucson, Ariz.) came in sixth while junior captain Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.) did not pin. At the intermediate level, senior captain Alisa Berg (St. Louis, Mo.) claimed third to go with Fries' first-place finish.

Baughen led the Bears with a third-place finish in open flat while Carter came in sixth, and junior Samantha Spear (Chester Springs, Pa.) did not place in her class. In intermediate flat, Fries and Buchsbaum each won her respective class.

In novice fences, junior Clara Mae Maynard (Chilmark, Mass.) and sophomore Lily Hertling (Paris, France) each recorded a fourth-place finish. Sophomore Caroline Marks (Seattle Wash.) paced Brown with a second-place finish in novice flat while Maynard and Hertling came in fifth and sixth in their respective classes.

Moving to walk-trot-canter, Park led the Bears with her first-place finish after pointing out of walk-trot earlier this fall. Junior Roshan Moazed (Brookline, Mass.) came in fourth, and sophomore Elizabeth Rao (Andover, Mass.) finished sixth. In walk-trot, Eguiguren took first, sophomore Natalia Moriel (Ciudad Juarez, Mexico) placed second, and sophomore Keri Brooks (Yigo, Guam) came in fourth.
