HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA – The Brown equestrian team concluded its 2013 season this past weekend, competing in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association's National Championships at the Harrisburg Farm Show Complex in Pennsylvania. Three Bears competed in the four-day event, turning in impressive performances against the best riders in the country.
On Thursday morning senior Eleanor Sharpe (Saunderstown, RI) opened the show for Brown, competing in the Individual Intermediate Flat event. She had a good draw, a big bay horse named Lance, and was not deterred by a re-ride in the middle of her class. After a strong performance she pinned eighth.
Senior co-captain Lindsay Wong (Sarasota, FL) began competition for the Cacchione Cup on Friday morning, partaking in the fences on a big grey named Sean. She rode an impeccable course, earning a score of 95, which put her in second place going into to the flat event, just one point behind the leader.
Later in the day, the top 24 riders after the fences came back to complete in the flat. Wong had a tough draw but rode her horse well and was selected to compete in the Cacchione Cup work-off on Saturday morning.
Junior Laura Kirk (Needham, MA) also competed on Friday, as she had qualified for Nationals in the Individual Walk Trot. Kirk competed on another big bay named Lance, and performed well in spite of the fact that the class did not play to her strengths, earning an honorable mention for the Bears.
Wong concluded the competition for Brown on Saturday morning, competing in the Cacchione Cup work-off. She had another tough draw but performed well against a truly excellent class, earning 10th place.
