Brown Equestrian Clinches Region with Third Place Finish at Holy Cross Show

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown equestrian finished in a third-place tie at Holy Cross's show in Hebron, Conn., and their 34 team points secured the region title for the Bears. Brown was able to hold off URI which will serve as the reserve school from the region.

The day started with the open fences in which Rebecca McGoldrick won here class while point rider Jacqueline Lubrano also pinned first to give Brown an early 7-5 lead over URI.

Cara Rosenbaum led the way in the intermediate fences as she took second in her class as Brown remained in first, but tied with Johnson & Wales, and two points ahead of URI.

JWU enjoyed a strong novice fences as Jena Tavormina placed second and the Bears fell three points behind the Wildcats, but still two up on the Rams.

Lubrano was Brown's point rider in the open flat and she pinned first and was the day's high-point rider, which helped Brown move back into a first-place tie with Johnson & Wales, and four points ahead of URI.

With the four point advantage and only a few events remaining, the Bears new they had won their region. 

Elizabeth Mahoney kept the wins coming as she won her class in the intermediate flat. Zoe Aron and Lenya Jackson followed suit, as each won their division in the novice flat.

Roger Williams made a late push in the walk trot canter and moved into first with 35 team points, three ahead of JWU and five ahead of Brown and URI.

RWU continued its push in the walk trot, and URI did the same as the two teams pulled away from the rest of the field. 

Brown will take part in the Regional Finals next weekend on March 24 in Gales Ferry, Conn.
