Brown Places Fifth at Roger Williams Show

Portsmouth, R.I. – Facing tough weather conditions of rain, near-freezing temperatures and frequent downpours, and without IHSA horses, the Brown equestrian team battled to a fifth place finish at the Roger Williams Show. The Bears totaled 26 team points, and remain in first overall in the region, but are now tied with Rhode Island.


The day started with the open fence. Point rider Rebecca McGoldrick was able to keep her horse under control and pinned fourth for three points.  In the next classLindsay Wong had a nice ride and pinned third. Points after Open Fences: URI & RWU 7, UMass-Dartmouth 5, Brown & Assumption 4.

In the intermediate fences, point rider Hallee Foster pinned fourth to push Brown's point total to seven.

The first class of the open flat saw point rider McGoldrick pin third, while Wong also took third in the second class. Scores: RWU 21, URI & Assumption 14, Brown 11, UMass-Dartmouth 10.

Cara Rosenbaum rode in the first class of the intermediate flat and pinned second, helping Brown to 16 team points, one back of third place UMass-Dartmouth.

In the novice flat, Hailey Roumimper led the group with a second place finish. Point rider Foster pinned fifth, while Zoe Aron took fourth. Scores: URI 26, RWU 23, UMass-Dartmouth 21, Becker 20,  Brown 18,  JWU 9.

The advanced walk trot canter featured Sarah Gonzalez who pinned fourth as well as Sophie Van Horne who placed first overall.

Meghan Hassan pinned 2nd in the beginner level of the walk trot canter. Scores: UMass-Dartmouth 31, URI & RWU 27, Brown 19, JWU 14.   

In the walk trot, new rider Tene Johnson pinned first while Morgan Johnson pinned fourth in the B group. In C, new rider Cheyenne Morrin pinned third and Laura Kirk placed first overall in D.

Next week's show is hosted by the Region and held at Windcrest Farm in Hebron Mass.
