Brown Remains In Overall Points Lead After Third-Place Finish at Becker Show
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown equestrian team headed north for the Becker College Show this past weekend and took third overall despite some tough horse draws and remain in the overall point lead for the region through three shows.
The day began with the open fences where both Lindsay Wong and Rebecca McGoldrick as the Bears earned three early points. In the intermediate fences ride, freshman point rider Hallee Foster pinned first for seven points as Brown jumped up to a second-place tie.
In the novice fences freshman Hailey Roumimper placed first in her first IHSA show and senior point rider Anna Baker pinned second and pointed up to intermediate. The scores were very close through without a drop through the fences, with Brown maintaining its second-place tie.
The open flat saw McGoldrick and point rider Jacqueline Lubrano pin second which pushed Brown into a first-place tie with Johnson & Wales with 17 points.
At the intermediate level, Baker pinned third. Freshman Elizabeth Mahoney drew tough horse, but showed determination and grit during the ride, pinning second. Scores: URI 23, JWU and RWU 21, Brown 20.
In the novice flat Jena Tavormina took second while freshman point rider Foster pinned first for seven points for a Brown total of 27.
The judges determined the high point rider, which included Foster, and two other riders, one of whom was an open rider who is currently tied for first place in Cacchione Cup. The judges decision was rendered and named Foster the victor.
In the walk trot canter, point rider Karolina Woroniecka pinned third while freshman Meghan Hassan came in third in her first IHSA show and Vivianne Anderson pinned first in her first horseshow.
The walk trot saw sophomore point rider Laura Kirk pin third for four points, sophomore Augusta Clark also pin third, and new rider Tene Johnson take fourth in her first ever show.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 29 next at the Roger Williams Show in Portsmouth, R.I.
