Rehoboth, Mass. – Brown equestrian remained unbeaten this weekend as the team won its fifth-straight show to keep a 47 point lead over URI in the yearly standings. The Bears tallied 35 points on a low-scoring day.
In the second class of the intermediate fences, both point rider Olivia Fialkow and Allison Dungey rode very well and pinned second and third, respectively. In the second class of the novice fences, Maya Manning, in her first intercollegiate show, finished in second. While in the third class, point rider Ellie Sharpe took third for 4 points.
Brown trailed the overall lead after the fences by four points, but made a charge to the top of the standings in the open flat. In the first class, Dakota Gruener pinned third while point rider Elise Fishelson won the second class.
In the Cacchione Cup (high point rider competition) Fishelson increased her lead by two points, improving to a 14 point lead over Kayla Prefontaine from Johnson & Wales.
Next was the intermediate flat. Freshman point rider Lauren Hogan was able to take first overall in the first class while Katy Eng pinned second in the second class to increase Brown's lead to three over URI and Roger Williams.
In the third class of the novice flat, Jena Tavormina had a stong ride to win the class and hold the Bear advantage at three.
The show would come down to the walk trot canter. Brown got to 30 points after the event while URI's point rider could only garner fifth place to push the Bears' lead to six.
In the first class of the walk trot, freshman point rider Vivian Hsiao in just her third show, pinned second on very tough horse to secure the victory for Brown.
