Brown Equestrian Makes It Three In A Row
Worcester, Mass. - On a crisp, cold New England day at the Becker College Equestrian Center where it had just snowed the night before, Brown won for the third consecutive time.
In the second class of Open Fences, point rider Elise Fishelson (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) rode a tough horse and pinned first for seven points to the Bears. After the open Brown was tied Roger Williams with seven points with Becker trailing at five.
In the second class of intermediate fences point rider Rebecca McGoldrick (Virginia Water, England) had a near perfect ride on a paint named Prince but pinned fourth. This allowed Becker to move into first with 12 points while Brown and Johnson & Wales were tied for second with 10 and Roger Williams and URI followed with nine and eight points respectively.
After the novice fences, Brown moved back into a tie for first when point rider Ellie Sharpe (Saunderstown, R.I.) pinned second after a great ride on a tough horse.
In the first class of the open flat, Dakota Gruener (Berkeley, Calif.) had a nice ride on Liam for a second place finish while in the second class, point rider Fishelson pinned first on a gray named Paco which extended the Brown lead to two over Becker.
With two firsts, Fishelson qualified for a place in the high point rider ride-off. She also moved into first place in the Cacchione Cup standings. The open rider in each Region of the country who earns the most points in a year goes directly to Nationals to compete with the other high point riders for the prestigious Cacchione Cup.
Since 2000 when Amanda Forte first went to nationals for the Cacchione (and won it in 2001), Brown has had the high point rider for nine of the 11 years. As of today Fishelson has 33 points, a seven point advantage over the second-place rider.
In the first class of the intermediate flat, Lindsay Wong (Sarasota, Fla.) won the class while McGoldrick took second place in the second class, pushing the Bear lead to four.
Freshman Olivia Fialkow (Boston, Mass.) pinned second in the first class of the novice flatto extend the advantage to six.
In the advanced portion of the walk, trot, canter Jena Tavormina (Houston, Texas) pinned second on a chestnut and pointed up to Novice. Beginner point rider Karolina Woroniecka (Great Neck, N.Y.) took second in her first show after pointing up from Walk Trot. In the first class, point rider Sophia Lin (Los Angeles, Calif.) pinned second to secure an eight-point win for Brown.
