The Brown equestrian team placed fifth at the UConn show over the weekend, as the Bears scored 27 points but were edged by several other teams. Bruno was still able to maintain a 12-point lead in the season standings with just one show remaining, however, giving them a comfortable margin for the finale.
The morning started with the Open Flat, which saw Elise Fishelson pin first in her class, though not as the point rider. Senior Liz Giliberti took fourth with a tough draw, earning three points for Brown. After a drop in Intermediate Flat, junior Cara Rosenbaum placed second in Novice, pushing the point total for the Bears to seven on the day.
The action then moved to Walk Trot Canter, where point rider Anna Baker picked up the first blue ribbon of the day for the Bears, pinning first in her class of the advanced division. In beginner Walk Trot Canter, sophomore Kona Shen kept the momentum going with another first, putting Brown thoroughly in the mix for first.
Brown's good riding initially continued over the fences, as Giliberti, again competing as the point rider, took first in her class of Open Fences. The remainder of the fences were not as kind though, as the Bears scored just three more points in the rest of the events, leaving them fifth with 27 points. In a relatively low-scoring show, Central Connecticut won with 37 points.
The Bears will be back in action next weekend, when they wrap up their fall season by traveling to Wesleyan.
