POTSDAM, N.Y. – Despite an early goal from freshman Maddie Morgan, the Brown women's hockey team suffered a 2-1 loss at No. 11 Clarkson Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.
Freshman Mégane Pilon made her third start in goal this season and finished with 27 saves for the Bears (5-11-1, 3-7-0 ECAC). The Golden Knights (17-6-1, 6-4-0 ECAC) bounce back after losing Friday night to Yale.
Coming into the game in need of offensive production, Brown got off to a quick start. Morgan sent home her second goal of the season just 3:28 into the game with helpers from fellow first-years Jade Iginla and India McDadi. Clarkson evened it up with 10:58 to go in the period on a power-play goal by junior Nicole Gosling from seniors Stephanie Markowski and Gabrielle David. Pilon finished with 13 saves in the first.
After seven more saves by Pilon to start the second, Clarkson executed on its eighth shot on goal in the period. Senior Darcie Lappan capitalized with assists from junior Anne Cherkowski and David. Sophomore Anna Hurd had a penalty shot in the period, but Clarkson's sophomore goaltender Holly Gruber came up with a big save. Pilon would have one more stop in the second.
Clarkson held on in the third as the Bears had five shots on goal. Pilon added six saves for her total of 27 on the day.
Brown travels to Yale next on Thursday night for a 6 p.m. start.
