PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University athletics recorded a 98-pecent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the latest report released by the NCAA on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Brown and the Ivy League once again lead the nation in GSR with a combined average over 97% across its eight institutions for student-athletes who began college in 2011.
"Our student-athletes continue to be among the national leaders in graduation success rate," said Brown Athletic Director Jack Hayes. "Brown student-athletes embrace the core values of the University and represent the Ivy League in the highest level of academics and athletic competition."
Brown's 2011 student-athlete Graduation Success Rate of 98% is a one-percent increase from last year's report. Twenty-one Brown programs had a perfect GSR: baseball, men's basketball, men's cross country/track, men's fencing, men's golf, men's lacrosse, men's swimming & diving, men's water polo, wrestling, women's basketball, women's crew, women's cross country/track, women's fencing, field hockey, women's golf, gymnastics, women's hockey, skiing, women's soccer, softball, and volleyball.
"Student‐athletes continue to achieve academic success at record levels," NCAA President Mark Emmert said. "When the GSR was created more than 15 years ago, the NCAA set an aspirational goal of 80 percent of student‐athletes graduating. College athletes have met and exceeded that goal — as they often do with any challenge."
The Graduation Rates Institution Report gives graduation information about the most recent six-year graduating class of students and student-athletes who entered as freshmen in 2011-12. The graduation rate (percent) is based on a comparison of the number (N) of students who entered a college or university and the number of those who graduated within six years.
