PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Football freshman running back Darius Daies and women’s golf freshman Winabel McCabe have earned Brown University Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, Brown announced on Monday.

Freshman running back Darius Daies rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries in his collegiate debut to help rally Brown past Rhode Island, 24-21, in the 102nd renewal of the Governor’s Cup on Saturday night. A native of St. Louis, Mo., Daies scored his first career touchdown on a 22-yard run to bring the Bears within 14-10 of the Rams early in the third quarter. His seven-yard touchdown run later in the third provided the hosts with a 24-14 lead.
Winabel McCabe, Women’s Golf, Freshman, Dover, Mass.
Freshman golfer Winabel McCabe placed third individually to help lead Brown to a second-place team finish at the Hartford Fall Invitational at the Gillette Ridge Golf Club in Bloomfield, Conn., this past weekend. A native of Dover, Mass., McCabe shot identical rounds of 76 and 76 to conclude the event with a two-round score of 152. As a team the Bears shot 306 on day one and 317 on day two to close the tournament with a two-day score of 623, finishing second out of 13 teams at the event.
