Distance Medley Relay, Zaffino Earn Brown Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Men’s track & field’s distance medley relay and women’s lacrosse junior midfielder Caroline Zaffino have earned Brown University Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Mar. 5-11, Brown announced on Monday.

The distance medley relay team of sophomore Zachary Lanigan (Sydney, Australia), senior Tosin Oyewole (Elkridge, Md.), senior Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.), and senior Martin Martinez (Waukegan, Ill.) gained Second Team All-America honors after placing ninth at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Bears clocked in with a time of 9:40.24 as Lanigan ran a 2:59.14 in the 1,200, Oyewole posted a 48.67 in the 400, Emrich registered a 1:49.99 in the 800, and Martinez tallied a 4:02.46 in the 1,600. 

Caroline Zaffino, Women’s Lacrosse, Junior, Darien, Conn.
Junior midfielder Caroline Zaffino helped lead the Bears to two non-conference wins last week with team highs in points (14), goals (12), and draw controls (12). In a 15-14 win at Bryant on Wednesday, the Darien, Conn., native scored a career-high seven goals and added five draw controls, four ground balls, and one assist. On Saturday, she helped the Bears score a season-best 20 goals in a 20-10 win over Monmouth. Zaffino recorded a team-high five goals and one assist, while adding seven draw controls and one caused turnover in the contest.
