Sophomore midfielder Tariq Akeel (Rochester Hills, Mich.) notched a pair of goals to lead the men’s soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Marist on Friday in the team’s lone game of the week.
Akeel scored his first goal of the season in the in the eighth minute. Sophomore Jack Gorab (Newport Beach, Calif.) struck a free kick from about 40 yards out into the box, where Akeel found an opening and headed a shot past Marist keeper Anthony Sokalski for the two-goal advantage. Akeel registered his second tally on the contest less than seven minutes later at 13:28. After an initial Brown shot deflected off the crossbar, senior Voltaire Escalona (Blue Bell, Pa.) hit the crossbar again with a rebounded shot, before Akeel made the most of the third shot and headed in the second rebound to beat Sokalski for the 3-0 lead.
Akeel has started all seven games for the Bears and ranks second on the team in both points and goals.
