Brown junior forward Tucker Halpern (Brookline, MA) was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after scoring 28 points, including the game-winning trey with 7.3 seconds remaining, to lift Brown to a stunning 69-68 win over Providence at a sold-out Pizzitola Sports Center.
Halpern knocked down two treys in the game's last minute, the first with 32 seconds remaining to pull the Bears to within one point of the Friars, 67-66. With less than 10 seconds remaining, Halpern grabbed a pass from Sean McGonagill in the left corner, pump-faked to allow the defender to fly by, and calmly connected on the game-winning trey to lift the Bears to a one-point victory.
An All-Ivy selection in 2011, Halpern connected on 10-of-17 shots from the field, including 8-of-15 from behind the three-point arc, in scoring 28 points, one shy of his career scoring high. His eight treys rank second in the Brown record book, behind the record of nine by Brian Lloyd vs. Lafayette (1/9/95) and Damon Huffman vs. Ohio U. (3/8/08).
Halpern and the Brown team are back in action on Friday in Kingston, Rhode Island, battling the University of Rhode Island Tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
