Three Brown Student-Athletes Named to Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District I At Large Team
Three Brown student-athletes - two seniors and one junior - have been selected to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large team. On the men’s side, senior men’s lacrosse player Clay Del Prince (Hamburg, NY) and senior fencer Kelly McGuire (Park City, UT) earned First Team honors, while junior gymnast Michelle Shnayder (Lincolnshire, IL) was a First Team honoree on the Women’s At-Large team. All three will now advance to the Academic All-America national ballot.

The Ivy League announced its list of winter Academic All-Ivy honorees, with 10 Brown student-athletes recognized for their excellence on and off the field. The student-athletes were starters or key reserves on their varsity sports teams, and carry a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

Student-athletes impact local, global communities through volunteering
At the end of April, Caroline King ’13, a forward on the women’s basketball team, will travel to western Nepal to continue her work with Nyaya Health, an organization focused on providing medical care in the area. King is also the founder of Hoops for Hope, a program that has partnered with the Providence chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation to raise around $2,000 and is based partly on the men’s ice hockey program Goals for Good. King has also volunteered at two local elementary schools, one of which is the Vartan Gregorian Elementary school at Fox Point.

Brown Athletics Announces Promotions and New Administrative Staff Hires
Brown Director of Athletics Jack Hayes has announced a series of staff promotions and new Athletic Department personnel hires. Robert Kenneally was promoted to Executive Associate Director of Athletics, and Jeanne Carhart was promoted to Associate Director of Athletic Communications. In addition, Meredith Scarlata was recently hired as Associate Director of Athletics for Finance, and Kelly Lee was named Brown Athletics’ Ticket Manager.

Brown Athletics Hall Of Fame To Induct Seven New Members And One Team
The Brown University Athletics Hall of Fame will induct seven new members and one team at its 39th Induction Dinner on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Westin Hotel. The inductees into the Hall of Fame are Lindsay A. Taylor ’01 (Track & Field), Zachary D. Burns ’99 (Football), Darren G. Eales ’95 (Soccer), Michelle Pagliaro Haywood ’94 (Basketball), Sharon Cleary Eastman ’91 (Diving), John G. McMahon ’91 (Lacrosse), the 1984-1985 Women’s Swimming & Diving Team, and Bruce D. Yeutter ’57, who will be presented with the Paul L. Maddock ’33 Award for service to Brown Athletics.

The Brown University Department of Athletics hosted a pair of events on Wednesday, October 10th, commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Title IX's enactment. Brown Athletics’ official web site, brownbears.com, has undergone a complete redesign with its web provider, Presto Sports, introducing a fresh, cleaner design. The updated site will feature larger images, 10 rotating stories on its main page and for each sport page, enhanced video and an engaging consumer interface. The new web site was officially launched on June 28, 2012.

For the seventh-straight year, the Ivy League sits at the top of the most recent NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA national office. Welcome To The Nelson Fitness Center, Moran Coleman Aquatics Center and Zucconi Strength and Conditioning Center
The unofficial grand opening of Brown University’s Nelson Fitness Center, Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, the Dave Zucconi ’55 Strength and Conditioning Center and the Ittleson Quad will take place the week of April 16-20, with activities for students, faculty and staff. The new complex is located at the corner of Hope and Cushing streets, site of the former Smith Swim Center. The official Corporation dedication is scheduled for Friday, May 25, during commencement weekend.

In a message to the Brown University community, Brown President Ruth J. Simmons announced that Executive Director of Athletics Michael Goldberger will retire at the end of the current academic year. Goldberger has served the University for 38 years, including 10 years as director of admission.

Brown’s 22 NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards Are Second In The Nation
Brown University Athletics excelled once again in the NCAA Academic Progress report, with 22 Brown sports earning Public Recognition Awards, second best among all NCAA Division I schools. Ivy League institutions once again boasted the most teams honored among the 909 teams that earned 2010-11 NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards, as announced by the NCAA.

Athletics Review Committee issues report for campus review
Brown University's Athletics Review Committee has recommended a package of steps including significant investment in athletic facilities, more competitive salaries for coaches and staff, the reduction of admission slots, and a better alignment of schedules to avoid conflicts between academic and athletic programs among student-athletes. The decision about the elimination of four sports was delayed until October 2011.

Brown University, the seventh oldest university in America, has selected ACS Athletics as its technology partner to more efficiently manage day-to-day operations within the athletics department. With ACS InControlTM software, Brown will manage the student-athlete life-cycle for more than 900 student-athletes participating in 37 sport programs on its Providence, Rhode Island campus.

Three Student-Athletes Named CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
Three Brown student-athletes all seniors - have been selected to the District I ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large teams. All three of Brown's nominated student-athletes were selected to the mens team with fencer Adam Pantel (Mendham, NJ) and water polo standout Kent Holland (Orinda, CA) both earning First Team honors. Mens ice hockey forward Aaron Volpatti (Revelstoke, BC) earned a spot on the Second Team. By virtue of their selection to the All-District First Team, Pantel and Holland will now advance to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America national ballot. For the At-Large process, schools may nominate up to three student-athletes for the men's team and three student-athletes for the women's team. All three of Browns honorees were also recognized as Academic All-Ivy selections this year during the competition season for their respective sport.

From Playing Fields to Battlefields
At the Thayer Street entrance to Lincoln Field stands the majestic Soldiers Memorial Gate. Dedicated in 1921, it bears tribute to the 43 Brunonians who lost their lives in World War I. A more recent monument, created in memory of Brown's men and women who lost their lives in World War II, Korea and Vietnam is also located on Lincoln Field. In Wriston Quadrangle, Patriots Court honors Brown men who died in the service of their country since 1775.

B2 Networks and Brown Athletics Announce Fall Sports Broadcast Schedule
B2 Networks and Brown University Athletics have announced the Bears' fall sports broadcast schedule. The partnership begins this weekend with live video coverage of field hockey, womens soccer and mens soccer. The coverage will continue with live broadcasts of home games for Brown football, men's and women's soccer, field hockey and volleyball. Coverage expands to include men's and women's basketball, men's and women's ice hockey, gymnastics, wrestling, men's and women's lacrosse, baseball and softball and possibly more sports and events in the winter and spring.
