Providence, R.I. - Brown student-athletes excelled on the field and in the classroom in near record numbers with six being named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in 2016-17.  The six student-athletes recognized represent the second highest number of Academic All-Americans selected in Brown history.

Brown’s Academic All-Americans for 2016-17 are Sam Grigo, Baseball – Second Team; Larken Kemp, Lacrosse – Second Team; Dylan Molloy, Lacrosse – First Team; Ruby Moore-Bloom, Crew – Second Team; Steven Spieth, Basketball – Third Team; and Luke Weiser, Water Polo – Third Team.

Since1971-72, 85 Brown student-athletes have been recognized as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. Arnie Berman ’72 (basketball) was Brown’s first-ever Academic All-American to be honored.

Academically, the group posted an average GPA of 3.78 on a 4.0 scale, and studied in several concentrations including Chemistry, Economics, Anthropology/Mid-East studies and Business, Entrepreneurship, and Organizations. There were also two All-Americans, four All-Ivy selections and a national champion among the Brown honorees.

The Academic All-America Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, as only student-athletes who maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and are significant contributors to their team's success are eligible for nomination. All-America honorees are selected from the pool of student-athletes chosen for their respective All-District Teams.
