Brown Athletics Continues Partnership With Vartan Gregorian Elementary School

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Student-athletes, coaches, and administrators from all varsity sports visited Vartan Gregorian Elementary School at Fox Point on Thursday for its kickoff with Brown University Athletics.

The kickoff allows coaches and student-athletes to mentor and interact with their adopted classrooms, a growing partnership that began in 1991 and has grown even stronger over the years.

“Having the athletes provide not just support in the classroom, but serve as role models to help our students see that effort, hard work, and practice offer great rewards,” said Principal Susan Stambler.

Basketball players Rafael Maia (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Carly Wellington (Lake Oswego, Ore.) addressed the crowd on Thursday.

“Fox Point is something that has become near and dear to my heart since my freshman year.  I loved that they have maintained this relationship for so long and that the athletes make it a priority to visit the classrooms,” said Wellington.

Today’s ceremony marks the 23rd year of the partnership between Vartan Gregorian and Brown Athletics.
