Brown 2017-18 Winter Academic All-Ivy Selections Announced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University had 10 student-athletes garner Academic All-Ivy accolades in an announcement made by the Ivy League on Tuesday.  The five men and five women were key contributors to their respective winter teams with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

Seniors Sam Lafferty (hockey), Quincy Beck (squash) and Carly Paul (track & field) earned the honor for the second consecutive season.

MEN
Thomas Blecher  | Squash | Senior | Toronto, Ontario | Political Science
- Team Captain … Played No. 1 all four years  ... Led the Bears to a win over No. 12 Drexel with a 3-0 victory.

Samuel Koch | Fencing | Senior | San Francisco, Calif. | Economics
- First Team All-Ivy … Came in 22nd at the NCAA Northeast Regional … Placed third with an 8-4 record at the Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins.

Sam Lafferty | Hockey | Senior | Hollidaysburg, Pa. | Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations
- Second Team All-Ivy … Led team in points (22) and assists (14) while adding eight goals … Assistant captain.

Tosin Oyewole | Track & Field | Senior | Elkridge, Md.| Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations
- Second Team All-American in the Distance Medley Relay … Second Team All-Ivy in the 400m … Team Captain.

Justin Staudenmayer | Wrestling | Senior | Plymouth Meeting, Pa. | Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations
- Qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third time at 157 pounds … Honorable Mention All-Ivy … Finished sixth at the EIWA Championships.


WOMEN
Quincy Beck | Squash | Senior | Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island | Neuroscience
- Team Captain (junior and senior years) … Played No. 1 all four years … Won her final match against Williams 3-0 to win the final match of the Nationals.

Sam Donovan | Hockey | Senior | New Brighton, Minn. | Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations
- Assistant captain … Honorable Mention All-Ivy … Led the team in points (16) and tied for the team lead in goals (8) while adding eight assists ... Led the Bears in goals all four years.

Shayna Mehta | Basketball | Junior | San Francisco, Calif. | Biology
- Second Team All-Ivy … Eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau on Dec. 10 … Ranked second in the Ivy League in points per game (18.5), second in 3-pointers made per game (2.8) and third in steals per game (2.2).

Carly Paul | Track & Field | Senior | Fort Collins, Colo. | Development Studies
- First Team All-Ivy ... Won the pentathlon and scored in three events at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships ... Broke the school record in the long jump.

Maddie Salesky | Swimming & Diving | Junior | San Rafael, Calif. | Health and Human Biology
- Key leg on two school record breaking relays (200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay) ... Made two A Finals at the Ivy League Championships (50 Free, 100 Free) ... Had the highest number of individual points scored at Ivies.
