In 2016 Dave Longo was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics – Facilities & Operations. Previously at Brown he has held the positions of Facilities & Operations Coordinator, and Manager, Athletic Facilities & Operations.
At Brown, Longo has multiple responsibilities in the areas of Event and Facilities Management. He is the game day Event Manager for Men’s Basketball, Men’s Lacrosse, Baseball, Volleyball & Gymnastics as well as assists in the management of Football home games. In addition, he has overseen multiple post-season events of note including the 2014 Ivy League Fencing Championships, 2015 & 2016 Ivy League Men’s Lacrosse Championships, 2016 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse First Round, 2014 Men’s Basketball CIT First Round, 2011 & 2017 ECAC Gymnastics Championships, 2014 USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships, and was the Assistant Tournament Director for the 2016 NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals at Brown Stadium.
Longo is responsible for the management of over 50 athletic event student workers, including hiring, training and staffing. He also manages up to six interns during the academic year and formulates the daily task list for the Facilities & Operations Coordinator. He is the primary facilities scheduler for the department’s 38 varsity teams, and with the exception of the Coleman Aquatics Center, is responsible for scheduling all athletic programing on 11 playing fields, a field house, hockey rink, gymnasium, squash pavilion, and indoor and outdoor tennis courts.
Longo works closely with the Brown University Department of Facilities Management trades crews in managing daily and preventative maintenance of Brown’s athletic facilities. He oversees all minor renovations to athletic space including staff and coaches’ offices. Longo works with the universities Planning & Projects Division on capital projects as assigned. He has overseen several major renovations at Brown including a $1.1 million renovation to the Olney-Margolies Center indoor track, and a $2.75 million renovation to the Pizzitola Sports Center locker rooms and athletic training room.
He is a member of the Collegiate Event and Facility Managers Association (CEFMA), the Northeast Ice Skating Managers Association (NEISMA), the United State Ice Rink Association, and is a Providence-Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau (PWCVB) Ambassador.
In 2011 he was awarded the Brown University Staff Rising Star Award. In 2016 he was named the National Collegiate Event Manager of the Year by CEFMA.
Longo is a graduate of the University of Connecticut where he received a BA in Psychology and Sociology and was captain of the Men’s Lacrosse team. He received his MS in Sport Management from Georgia Southern University. He is a native of North Kingstown, RI and currently resides on the East Side of Providence.
